Shop Update 3/25/15

We are starting to get to the end of our student projects.  We are still running a 3 week lead and I do not expect that to change as we take a few days off and work on our machines (and other neglected projects).  I may be able to cycle quotes a bit quicker than a week, but it will depend on if you happen to catch me when I am doing a batch of quotes.

Please do continue to use email vs phone as much as possible.  There is only one of me and many of you.  Aziz, our Shop Tech, will be starting full time in April, but I do not expect him to handle the phone.  Essentially, Shop Time is much different than Office Time.  It can take some time and focus to program these jobs and we do not like to stop and start to answer the phone, as it can cause errors and generally slow things way down in the shop.  Think of Shop Time as a train leaving the station - It takes a bit to get going, and once it does it takes some energy to stop and start again.  Smart people sometimes refer to this as switching costs in the multi-tasking context (vs business/logistics domain).  Either way, it's something we try to avoid so we can continue to turn out quality cores in a reasonable timeframe.

Thanks!

CAD File Info

Or, Why I Do Not Want 3D Files.  We are working on a new web site that I hope to have up in the Summer.  I'll start providing better FAQs, and maybe even some videos to help out with this kind of stuff.  Meantime, I spend a bunch of time typing this blurb in emails for Custom Core customers, so figured I would put it out there in case someone actually reads this stuff.

CNC hotwire is essentially two 2D jobs running at the same time - one on each end of wire.  So we prefer CAD files in DXF or DWG format of root and tip profiles (if different), and another file with top view for computing geometry.  1:1 scale and imperial units with proper dimensions makes things go faster and reduces chance for conversion error on my part.

This only applies if you are not using a published airfoil (We consider a published airfoil to be anything with a .dat file that's been put out on the interweb for download).  OR if you are using a published airfoil and you have a bunch of interior features such as tube holes, spar slots or hinge lines.

We charge a one time fee (usually 20-30 bucks) per airfoil for CAD to CNC conversion.

Thanks!

Joker 48

$110.00

The Joker 48 is an all EPP forward swept flying wing designed for affordable fun, speed and agility.  With optional rudder installed it's one of the funnest flying wings we have ever flown.  The forward swept design maintains energy in the turns and allows it to handle winds as if it were a much larger aircraft.  It also has great stall characteristics and a wide speed range.  Overall a great option for those looking to buy/build a fun sport aero plane with the durability of EPP.
