The winning Team for the 2003 Open Class at the California R/C Marathon.
Left to right: Ken Kloster, Dana Parrish, Bob Mellen - Team Captain, Jason Benson, Shirley Parrish, Janet Knotts and Jeff Mellen. Shirley drove the chase vehicle while Janet kept track of the mileage and monitored our progress. Everyone else took turns as pilots keeping the Kadet in the air for 8 hours non-stop. This year's run ended when the Kadet simply ran out of fuel.
This old war horse, a 10 year old Sig Kadet Sr. went 364 miles non-stop on 1/2 gallon of fuel. It is powered by an OS .91 Surpass 4-stroke that has been modified to run on gasoline. This Kadet has been entered in every California R/C Marathon since 1993. It won the event in 1994 with 265 miles, and took 2nd place in 1999 with 359 miles.
The California R/C Marathon is held the first weekend in May in Baker California and is hosted by the Corona R/C Club.
